Art Imitates Life: House of Gucci Spills Family Secrets
December 14, 2021
“I don’t consider myself to be a particularly ethical person, but I am fair”, is uttered by Lady Gaga, playing Patricia Reggiani in the new blockbuster film, House of Gucci.
This R-rated Crime/Drama film follows Reggiani’s life as she marries into the Gucci family and rises from her humble beginnings, infiltrating the business.
Adam Driver, Maurizio Gucci, plays Reggiani’s husband who starts off wanting nothing to do with the Gucci fortune, even going as far as getting disowned due to wanting to marry the protagonist. After some convincing, Gucci makes up with his family and the story truly begins.
Reggiani’s ambition is quite obvious from the get-go, she is constantly pushing for more in her life no matter how good her situation is. Eventually, her ambition starts to unravel the family and causes problems in her marital life. This leads to a nasty divorce between Gucci and herself and the infamous murder after.
With a budget of $75 million, this movie didn’t come to disappoint. The main actors absolutely crushed their roles, even their accents were absolutely incredible.
Somehow, Gaga makes you feel empathy for the murderer and enables you to see the human side to her. Meanwhile Star Wars alumni, Driver helps counteract this feeling by showing Gucci’s truth to what happened.
This film also includes celebrities Al Pacino, Jared Leto, and Salma Hayek, making it a star studded event. The visionary filmmaking along with the fashion and music helps you feel transported and as if you’re a part of the storyline. It feels as if you were an upperclass, fashion obsessed socialite living in the 1980s and somehow you’re a part of the Gucci family.
Run, don’t walk to go see this new film. As Reggiani says in the film, “Father, Son, and House of Gucci.”
