“I was nervous transferring my mid junior year because everyone already knows each other and your the new kid who doesn’t really know anyone, but everyone at La Salle has been super nice.”

— Nicolas Trontz

ILS has taken in a number of transfer students this semester. Many eagerly waited to come to La Salle having finally gotten the opportunity. As a junior, I wanted to find out what transfer students were coming into my grade this quarter.

Nicolas Trontz is a new junior transfer student who came from Belen Jesuit school to ILS for Baseball. He used to play Basketball and Football, but switched to baseball once he realized they weren’t really his thing. He was born and raised in Miami and has lived here his whole life. Some of his hobbies are playing video games which include Madden, NFL, and NBA.

What screamed out the most to Nicolas was the vibe of La Salle and how united all the people in the different grades are. Nick has also had a smooth academic transition from Belen to La Salle. He had a lot of work at Belen so he learned how to manage time with his studies and considers himself a good student. His favorite class is English with Ms. Maria Cuesta. He has always preferred English over Math and plans on possibly studying something in law.

Over the years he has picked up some Spanish speaking skills from six years of taking Spanish at Belen. He likes that he is able to pick his electives at La Salle and is currently in weight training.

The transition from an all-boys school to a co-ed school has been a fun and different experience. Nick has attended all-boys schools much of his life so being in a school with both girls and boys has shown him how many new friendships you can build and how teachers are with a variety of students.

Nick is a very motivated and active transfer who has seen first-hand how welcoming those at ILS can be. This goes to show just how important it is for people to get to know transfers and make them feel welcome at their new school.
