Effects of Low Energy Hobbies

Part 2 of 3

Sleep, relaxation, and a good work ethic are all important things necessary for everyday life. Having school for seven or more hours a day can be a soul sucking experience. Add a smattering of extracurricular activities and Miami traffic to ice the cake—life can get tough.

Enter: Hobbies! They’re sometimes seen as unnecessary in Miami, but the truth is anything can become a hobby as they are often truly productive pursuits.

“I use drawing to de-stress as long as school is not overly intense at the moment, ” said senior Juliana Echeverri.

Drawing has an impressive arsenal of benefits for the artist starting with having a better memory,  being more creative, and enhanced visualization skills. While also having such phenomenal benefits, a wonderful byproduct is the actual art piece that can be sold or kept if the artist so chooses.

For those not inclined to sketching, there is much pleasure to be derived from the hobby of planning.

“I absolutely love planning vacation trips,” said drama teacher, Mrs. Lianne Rodriguez.

Apart from the obvious plus to this hobby is the wonderful vacation for her family to enjoy, Mrs. Rodriguez mentioned that she had a feeling of ownership while designing her trips. Planning as a hobby is extremely useful, since it allows the person to not only be more organized, but to use precious vacation time more wisely. After all, time is the most precious of resources.

Another beneficial hobby, reading, has numerous positive benefits. Reading only twenty or thirty minutes a day can have many positive effects like improved writing skills, better story telling, and increased eloquence. Reading is one of the most low energy cost and high reward hobbies because its benefits help the reader communicate better. Not only does reading before bed help prepare the body for sleeping but often times it clears the mind almost like a form of meditation.

Whatever hobby you choose to pursue, hobbies will always be a plus for any hobby connoisseur—whether it helps with comprehension or basic mental stability. Now, go out and reap the benefits of  your future hobbies.
