In the hectic lifestyles of students and faculty, each individual finds peace within their favorite music. Music is the cure to escape from the chaos, a balm for stress and anxiety. The melodies and rhythms are like a friend you didn’t know you needed, controlling the minds and soul, turning dull moments into celebrations. Music became everyone’s companion on a journey of self-discovery, a simple yet powerful force that splatters emotions with resilience and joy.

Different music genres have a remarkable ability to influence and uplift a person’s mental state. The calming tunes of classical music can bring tranquility and reduce stress, acting like a gentle massage for the mind. Upbeat and energetic genres like rap or R&B, can boost your self-esteem and inspire motivation. Those struggling with remorse or trauma might find their peace when listening to sad music, to help them cope with their mental mind game, providing a comforting space for self-discovery. All things taken into account, the wide range of musical genres serves as a therapeutic tool, fulfilling different emotional needs while encouraging your mental well-being.

“Whenever I receive bad news, or play badly at my sport, I force myself to listen to upbeat music like rap. I do this because I know that listening to a song that I know will make me physically feel better about myself which will be all that matters in the end. But, when I’m really down, I like to isolate myself and listen to comfort music. It makes me feel safe and lets me process everything more clearly,” said senior Emilie Reyes.

“My everyday music genre is R&B music. On the way to school, I blast these types of songs because it motivates me to keep going for the rest of the day, leaving me with a good mindset. Whenever I am struggling, R&B music blocks out all the negative happening in my head,” said senior Nicholas Dominguez.

“You will always catch me listening to country music. Country music brings out the best in me, letting me express my emotions but also dance with my emotions. Country music to me is the best because it has a beat, but can also be slow,” said senior Megan Dominguez.

Music provides an emotional safe haven and therefore offers a nice means of dealing with emotions. It does not necessarily rely on words to establish a connection making it easy for everyone to access it. With songs that calm the soul for difficult moments and those that bring upbeat beats for a lift in mood, music allows listeners either to convey or comprehend emotions, serving as a language people share, and offers consolation.
