“I liked the field trip overall and thought it was very nice to give out cupcakes and show our support for the veterans,” said junior Gabriel Farina.
To honor Veterans’ Day before the actual holiday Nov. 11, 20 members of the Purple Heart Club set off on a meaningful field trip to the local Bruce. W. Carter VA (VeteraMedical Center. Each student carried a small bag filled with American flags, cookies, and handmade cards they had spent time creating. These gifts were simple but held heartfelt messages of gratitude.
“Honoring the veterans at the VA with simple actions reminded me of the power in small acts of gratitude for those who’ve sacrificed so much,” said Purple Hearts Club Member Madison Solis.
As they entered the hospital, the students were greeted with warm smiles from veterans and staff alike. One by one, they began their rounds, approaching each veteran with a flag, cookie, and a card. The veterans’ faces softened with emotion as they held the students’ gifts. Each student took time to listen to the veterans’ stories, sharing laughs and memories that bridged generations.
By the end of the visit, each student felt a deeper appreciation for the courage and dedication of the veterans they’d met. As they boarded the bus back to school, they knew they’d carry these stories with them—a reminder of the bravery and resilience that built their nation
“I would describe the field trip as very inspiring as we got to meet and talk to veterans and witness their pride for their service for our country. It was heartwarming to see their appreciation for simple acts such as receiving a handmade card and a cupcake. Their excitement to get to know us and our mission was so sweet and I feel blessed I got to experience it,” said junior Daniela Lecuna.
