“It was a moment we’ll always remember.”

— Senior and outside hitter, Christina Blanco

Senior Night, a night to celebrate the team’s senior players’ last home game of the season, is a time for ILS’ winning girl’s volleyball team to celebrate. Game after game, the girls have given it their all as the seniors keep getting closer to the end of their regular season. A beautiful ceremony of flowers and crowns was held for nine of the seniors as cheers and praise shook the gym.

“It was everything I had imagined and dreamed of! It was very emotional and you could really feel the love from the team and coaches,”said senior and outside hitter, Christina Blanco.

As soon as the pictures were taken and the ceremony came to an end, the intense and exciting game started against Monsignor Pace High School. To put the cherry on top of such an important night for these girls, they were able to defeat Pace in three sets–25-20, 25-16, and 25-19. The team was led by Helena Marquina with 15 kills and three blocks. Chrisitna Blanco also had a great game with six kills, seven serving aces and two digs. Some other notable players throughout the game were Anna Vitti who had three kills, and five digs and Samantha Santiago who had three aces, six digs, 13 assists, and one kill.

With the whistle blowing to end the game, “the whole team ran out and hugged each other” to commemorate their special night. Their cheers and steps as they jumped for excitement filled the gym embracing one more victory hug in the royals’ Lion’s Den. The volleyball team are now headed for their district tournament and have already been excelling by taking the victory for their opening round district quarter final match against Miami Sunset in straight sets–25-14, 25-14 & 25-16. They are determined to keep this streak of wins throughout their district tournament. Even so, as the post season run has begun, what advice would the girls would offer their fellow teammates on what’s to come.

“Live in the moment and take in every moment you have in high school because it really goes by fast,” said senior and defensive specialist, Sophie Fakhouri. “Work hard and be patient and loving with each other,” Blanco added.

We will keep wishing the team the best of luck and a great end to their amazing season!
