Expressing Creativity through Parking Spots

It’s that time of the year where seniors paint their designated parking spots.

The hot blazing sun, paint everywhere, hours of dedication, and with some very creative minds, selected seniors got the privilege to show their skills by painting their parking spots.

With 211 seniors and 84 spots, those who were chosen, did not just get picked because of their cool car, but more for their hard work and behavior.

The process goes like this;

  1. A solid GPA
  2. Good grades
  3. Attendance (no more than five absences)
  4. Service hours
  5. Good conduct
  6. Application Form Submission (first come-first served)
  7. Points calculation (out of 13 total)

Seniors designed their parking spot receiving approval from Mr. James Rydborn, Dean of Students. To come up with an inspiration unique to their personality, some decided to share how their creativity was sparked:

“I drew happy faces and hearts to represent love and happiness. I chose the color purple because I feel as though that color represents something bright and vibrant and powerful. I got inspired by the thought to radiate love and positivity to anyone who walks by my spot,” said senior Vanessa Incera.

“I originally wanted to do something about my favorite artist, but it wouldn’t make sense since I couldn’t write anything other than my name and grade. So I started scrolling on Pinterest and I found something similar and I loved it,” said senior Camilla Souza.

“My drawing consists of hearts with a cream-colored background. There’s black lines which surround the hearts emphasizing them. I painted hearts because it’s what I identify, too. The red in the hearts shows my passion for things. The hearts show my empathy and the cream background shows how I am; I am a soft person who likes clear and subtle things,” said senior Estefania BouAssaf.

Out of the 84 spots, after a whole day of hard work, the best spots will be decided by the rest of the student body. Mr. Rydborn sent an email encouraging students to check out and pick their favorites. Make sure to see for yourself and vote for the winner.
