KATIE'S KRAZY BOOK OBSESSION

Reminders of Him: A heart-shattering novel.

Isabella Black, Features Editor

It ripped me apart and put me back together.

Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover is her first novel of the year (Jan. 18).

In January of 2021, I picked up my first Colleen Hoover novel, It Ends With Us. it had a very similar effect on me (shattering my heart into a million pieces and then repairing the damage… so fun).

During the last 13 months, a few other Hoover novels have passed through my TBR (to be read) list so it was a no-brainer to go pick up her newest novel except it was sold out everywhere. It took a week to come in but less than a day to finish.

Reminders of Him follows Kenna Rowan, a young mother, who after five years in prison returns to a town that despises her in an attempt to reunite with her four-year-old daughter, Diem. Kenna realizes that trying to fit into her daughter’s life is going to be much harder than she anticipated. She gains the trust of Ledger Ward, one of the few ties she has to Diem, but he struggles figuring out if it’s worth helping Kenna be in Diem’s life. Kenna Rowan is trying to start with a clean state but her past still haunts her.

Sneak Peek:

“I never could have imagined what it would be like for a mother to lay eyes on her child for the first time. The sight of Diem on the screen steals Kenna’s breath. She slaps a hand over her mouth and begins to cry. She cries so hard, she has to set the phone on her legs so she can use her shirt to clear her eyes of tears. Kenna becomes a different person right in front of my eyes. It’s as if I’m witnessing her become a mother. It might be the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

Hoover’s novels have always been hard to put down. She has a way of creating unimaginable, heartbreaking plot twists. Hoover has a way of writing short and simple sentences that make you feel like your heart has just been pierced by a thousand needles (no, I’m not exaggerating).

“Maybe if I acknowledge all the good things, no matter how small, they’ll add up to make the bad thing in my life less painful.”- Colleen Hoover, Reminders Of Him

I recommend all of Colleen Hoover’s novels I have read. Reminders of Him is joining the list.
