Recently the hit Netflix original, “Outer Banks,” came out with a third season. “Outer Banks” is a show that is set in a community in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It follows a group of teenagers as they are in search of a lost treasure. The last two seasons were received very well by the public giving the first season an 85% audience score with 35.1 million hours viewed. The second season’s audience score dropped a bit but still had a good rating of 76%. The third season, however, dropped the audience score even more and received a mediocre score of 69%.

Where did it go wrong? How did a show’s B rating drop to a D rating in only three seasons? Some critics claim that season three fails to find a good reason to continue the “Outer Banks” storyline.

“It’s becoming all too obvious that, even with its future mapped out, ‘Outer Banks’ doesn’t know where it’s going,” wrote  Christina Izzo at Top Critic.

Among the negative comments, there were many positive ones as well.

“I love the bright sunny ocean-side cinematography of the show while watching teens outside being active, as well as the show’s message; money doesn’t make you a good person with the right morals,” TV critic, Sarah Knight Adamson.

The third season fails to deliver the same feeling that the first season offered. The show was released at a very perfect time, the middle of a pandemic. Its target demographic, which consists of young teenagers, were yearning to have cool adventures with friends. This season had a major drop in quality. The writers were unable to follow up with some storylines created in the past, leaving many plot holes. Even though this season didn’t meet the standards that it originally set, it was officially renewed for another season. Hopefully, they can make the proper changes and get their show back on the right track.
