The official Mother’s Day holiday arose in the 1900s as a result of the efforts of Anna Jarvis, daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis. Following her mother’s 1905 death, Anna Jarvis conceived of Mother’s Day as a way of honoring the sacrifices mothers made for their children. (historychannel.com)

Avoid the crazy Mother’s Day scramble next year by planning for a gift in advance. A gift doesn’t need to be extravagant or expensive, since even the simple gesture of giving a gift demonstrates you care.

Here are some gift ideas that are thoughtful, but also won’t break the bank.

  • Flowers: The classic and great gift for Mother’s Day especially if you are unsure what to get, flowers are the way to go. If you know her favorite flower, be sure to get those. Flowers are such a simple and easy gift you can find pretty much anywhere.
  • Mother Daughter/Son Trip: If your looking to be more extravagant, plan a mother/daughter or mother/son trip. You can go your mom’s favorite location and spend time there or even make it a day trip. Plan events to do and places to go. This gift takes the stress of planning a trip off of your loved one.
  • Tell Her What She Means to You: A very simple gift that is easily overlooked is the act of telling her what she means to you. Many moms don’t hear how much they truly mean to you often enough. So take some time and express yourself to your mom. This gift cost nothing and it is something everyone can do.
  • A Card: a card is a great add to any gift for your mom. Because a card alone can be impersonal, be sure to write in it and express your gratitude.
  • Jewelry: Jewelry is a gift many moms want. Getting her a necklace, earrings, bracelet, watch with meaning behind it is a great gift. Whether it is a piece your mom has wanted for a while, or something with a meaningful initial/charm on it, jewelry is always appreciated.

Anything you get for your mom or motherly figure, she will surely value. Make Mother’s Day special for the woman you look up to in your life. Moms do so much, what you do for her may be so little, but to her will mean so much.
