The Royal Lions Girls’ soccer team has always loved soccer and fought for the win as much as they could. This 23-24 season has been rough, but overall the team has grown so close and is proud of all their hard work.
This year the team held a record of 9-7, which means 9 wins 7 losses.
“This season was good, and I’m sad we couldn’t make it to the district finals, but I’m glad to have been with this team and these amazing girls this year,” said senior Olivia Menendez.
The last time the ILS Girls’ soccer team won a district championship was in the 2021-2022 season. They wanted to win this year, but it got cut short. They put there hearts out there, despite the things that can happen.
Almost all of these girls have played soccer their whole lives including goalie senior Ashley Fonseca and forward Rebecca Baldelomar.
These two have played with each other since they were little, and both are astonishing players as well as captains.
“I love this team so much and even though our season has come to an end, we are all going to stay close. We’ve tried our best and put our dedication on the field,” said senior Ashley Fonseca.
Ashley has always been an amazing player with so much dedication, arguably the best female goalkeeper this school has had.
“Coach Vuono and these girls have always given me so much support. Last year I was injured and couldn’t play much, but this year I was back and better than ever. Even though we couldn’t proceed to semi-finals, I’m glad I’ve experienced my last year with these girls,” said senior Rebecca Baldelomar.
Rebecca scored 22 goals this season and even last year when she was injured ended up getting 3.Her first year at ILS was her sophomore year, 2021-2022. Overall, in these three years she has scored 47 goals.
Next year the girls hope to become district champions once again.
