Hello, ILS Family.

Here is your Sports Flash and upcoming sports schedule.

Baseball: The ILS Varsity Baseball team defeated Dr Krop HS this past Thursday at Tamiami Park by a final score of 8-2. The Royal Lion offense was led by senior Nicolas Trontz, 3-4 with a 2B and 3 Runs Batted In, and junior Connor Hernandez who also accumulated 3 hits including a triple and 2 Runs Scored. After 3 innings and the game tied, sophomore Jonny Quintana relieved starting pitcher, Hector Sosa, and delivered 4 innings of scoreless baseball on the mound to secure the win vs. Dr Krop. With 3 varsity games , the Royal Lions look to finish the regular season with momentum going into the district playoffs vs Ronald Reagan.

4/23 SENIOR NIGHT vs Coral Park @STU

Beach: This week the girls’ beach volleyball hosted three games, beating two of the three teams. On Monday, the team competed against Chaminade-Madonna and secured a 3-2 victory. The game was led by Sara Moreno, Sunshine Garcia, Paola Marin, Riannen Pouza, Elena Figueroa, and Miranda Grande. On Thursday, the team finished their regular season with a victory against MAST Academy. The team finished with a 4-1 win. Standout performances include Sara Moreno, Paola Marin, Helenn Montilla, and Gracie Blanco. This year, the beach volleyball team ends their season with a 7-3 record, highlighting major improvements from last season. Next week, the girls’ beach team will compete in the district tournament hoping to secure the school’s first ever beach volleyball district championship title.

Boys Volleyball: Your boys volleyball team took on American Heritage earlier this week and won in straight sets. 25-9,25-15,25-12. Your boys also took on Ronald Reagan on Thursday and pulled off a reverse sweep. After being down 0-2 the boys rallied back and won a 5-set thriller 20-25, 25-27, 25-23, 25-20, 15-13. The boys look to celebrate their seniors tomorrow at home for senior night vs Downtown Doral. They will also take on Coral Gables on Tuesday for the last regular season game.

Track: The conclusion of the track team’s remarkable regular season on Tuesday at Belen saw the girls’ team shining brightly in their final meet, clinching a well-deserved first-place victory. Their performance was exceptional across all categories, a testament to their unwavering dedication and hard work, dominating in sprints, throws, and jumps.

Simultaneously, the boys’ team exhibited great effort, securing a commendable second-place overall finish. Their display of skills and teamwork was impressive, pushing themselves to excel in every aspect of the competition.

Overall, it was a successful meet for both teams, with the girls claiming the top spot and the boys securing a strong second-place finish. This collective achievement reflects the fruits of everyone’s labor and training, making the event truly memorable for the entire team. As we wrap up this phase of the season, we carry with us the pride of the girls’ first-place victory and the resilience of the boys’ second-place finish. These accomplishments serve as powerful motivation as we set our sights on the postseason, confident in the solid foundation we’ve built for even greater success ahead.

Tennis: This past week served as the end of the tennis season with the district tournament being held out of Tropical Park on Monday and Tuesday. With a strong season behind us, the team knew they would be competitive even with 2 of the strongest teams from the region in our district tournament. On day 1 we made a strong show with all boys and girls singles winning their quarter final matches to put them through to the semifinals where they all would come up against either MAST or Gulliver, the number 1 or 2 seeds.

Unfortunately, none of the singles matches were able to get a win in any of the single’s semi-finals matches. Day 1 finished with the quarter finals in doubles which all our teams won, setting up the semi-finals the following day. Again, all the matches were against either the number 1 or 2 seed in MAST or Gulliver. Even though everyone fought hard in their matches, we just couldn’t put it all together. In the end, we won enough points to come in third place in the district which is still a great effort.

As for the season overall, it was great to add a lot of young players who already have shown a lot of growth in their first year. We’re looking forward to seeing them develop over the next few years as we hope to be more competitive. Also, thank you to all the seniors who played their last game from ILS, being on the team for all 4 years or just a few, they lead the way for the younger players, and they are all better off because of them. Thank you also, to the parents who helped get their children to and from matches and practice and their support throughout their time at ILS.
