The Varsity and JV boys volleyball team is mid season right now, working hard and trying to win a district final.

Boys Volleyball is a sport that many don’t play, but at ILS it’s a sport that, for the most part, the boys love to play.

“I think this team is the strongest team to come out of ILS, and we’ve never been closer to a district championship. I’m excited to see where this season takes us,” said sophomore Marco Blavia.

Marco, who is also a part of SGA, has been on varsity since his freshman year, and considered a very big asset for the team.

Volleyball is the fastest growing team sport in the United States for high school boys. Participation has increased 20% over the last six years and 34% over the last 10 years.

Sophmore Sergi Martinez has a lot of fun on JV and is glad he is spending his first year playing volleyball with these boys.

“Our JV volleyball team embodies the true spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork. They consistently give it their all on the court, displaying dedication and resilience in every match. Their commitment to improving and supporting one another is admirable and serves as an inspiration to our school community,” said Sergi.

The boys next game is against Florida Christian.

“Even though I am just a freshman and this is all new to me, I’m very grateful for my opportunity to be a freshman on varsity and I like how the season is going for us so far. We have so much to go and I’m very excited for districts,” said freshman Daniel Auza.

Varsity’s record at the moment is 4-2 while JV is 3-2.

Varsity has one freshman on the team—Daniel, one sophomore—Marco, and multiple juniors and seniors. The two captains are Logan angus and Lucas Barragán.

The boys have never won a district title, but are hoping to win one this year for the first time ever.
