Alo Yoga or Lululemon: Which Do You Prefer?

Should I spend my money on this brand? Or, that one?

Lululemon, for one, is a luxurious athletic apparel company known for its unique fabrics and cutting edge design. Recognized for the quality of their apparel being top notch, especially for the durability of their products, but with every high quality brand comes a competitor–Alo Yoga. As Lululemon’s biggest competitor, both brands feature high quality products in the same price range. Alo Yoga also expresses “studio to street” clothes embracing the multi-purpose role of athleisure. After multiple interviews, asking what brand is preferred, what pops out most about each brand, and if an ad was shown which one is the most selling, one of the brands took a win.

Most clothing brands typically get their hype due to their marketing skills and having influencers show off their products.  Lululemon’s marketing strategy is marketed towards locals, meaning they regularly collaborate with local yoga, wellness, and fitness instructors to represent its brand while also having frequent pop up shops to see if it clicks with the market. Along with that, they make their consumers want more by showing scarcity in products.

On the other hand, Alo Yoga uses their own consumers to share their products so it makes people feel more involved and included with the brand. The similarity they both have is that both brands create great relationships with fitness instructors, and when potential customers see someone they know and trust influencing a brand, the recommendation carries a lot of weight.

Though Lululemon and Alo Yoga both feature the same concept, many students at ILS think one is better than the other.

“In the aspect of working out, I prefer Lululemon, but I do think Alo is super cute to wear as a workout outfit just not as good to actually workout in,” said senior Maria Arena.

“I prefer Lululemon because I’ve never seen an ad of Alo that inspires me to buy it. Lululemon always sticks out to me, leaving me wanting to buy more of it,”  said senior Nicole Gonzalez.

“I prefer Lululemon over Alo because Lululemon’s fabric is longer lasting and overall better material,” said junior Amelie Terry.

Well, there you have it, ILS. Lululemon clearly took the win. Even though Alo Yoga and Lululemon are similar, most consumers who own both brands prefer Lululemon because of the quality. Lululemon is not only the perfect athleisure to just stay at home and run errands in, but it’s also the perfect brand to get a good workout in. Although Alo Yoga is very stylish, and “studio to street” wear, it’s not the one some ILS consumers prefer for working out.
