Girls Basketball wins thriller versus Hebrew Academy, 32-28

On Monday, the ILS girls varsity basketball team took home a thrilling victory over Hebrew Academy, 32-28.

Entering the game, Hebrew Academy sported an 8-2 record and were winners of 5 games in a row. The Lady Royal Lions were facing a tough test, and they passed. In a close game, ILS took home the upset victory over the Warriors.

Camila Corvalan played one of her best games of the season, scoring a season-high 15 points. The junior point guard showed her leadership abilities in this one as the team’s point guard and defensive leader. Corvalan lead the team with four steals and added four rebounds as well.

Freshman Mary Scheuerle continued her great play this season, pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds and chipping in with six points. Sophomore Cassie Martinez de Castro’s steady play resulted in five points, five rebounds and one block.

Do-it-all forward Laura Hernandez padded the stat-sheet with four points, and team-highs with four assists and four blocks.

On the season thus far, freshman Mary Scheuerle leads the team in scoring with a 8.3 points-per-game average and 9.1 rebounds-per-game average. Corvalan is second in the team in scoring at 7.1 points-per-game. She leads the team with 3.5 assists-per-game and 3.0 steals-per-game.

Martinez de Castro is third on the team in scoring at 6.9 points-per-game and second in rebounding with 8.7 rebounds-per-game. Junior Ana Sol has been a steady presence on the perimeter. She’s made eight threes on the season and is averaging a career-high 6.6 points-per-game. Junior Laura Hernandez is averaging 5.8 points-per-game, 5.7 rebounds-per-game, 2.6 assists-per-game and 2.3 steals-per-game.

The Lady Royal Lions improved tier record to 5-6 and have won three games in a row. They’re 4-1 over their last five games and have shown great improvement in a number of areas.
