The Royal Readers are beginning to dive into the world of literature.

During this past year of quarantine, teens have been putting down their phones and picking up books. Sites such as Tik Tok and Instagram have spread throughout their platforms a love for diving into a good book by giving recommendations, rating works, and grouping together fellow readers. Because of this widespread influence, students here at La Salle have come together and created a club where they can share with each other what makes reading special to them: the Royal Readers.

Remy LaMarie and Elisa Ligero, two current seniors at ILS, began this club this year so that they could “share their passion of books and reading with other students, and to help encourage others to start reading for pleasure.” With this club, they hope to spark up conversation with other students surrounding literature, whether it’s a non-fiction, historical fiction, or drama-filled book.

“I hope being in the book club will help me narrow down the types of genres I like most,” said junior Angelina Cambo.

During their first meeting this past month, the club, as a whole, voted on what book they were to pick up and start the year off with. In the end, they chose And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, a mystery crime thriller surrounding ten strangers who are lured to an isolated island and stuck when they find one of their fellow passengers murdered. By the time their next meeting comes up, these Royal Readers are hoping to discuss their thoughts and theories on the novel, along with choosing what they’ll tackle next.

So far, these readers have gathered over 20 club members and cannot wait to make an impact at La Salle through their shared love of literature.

“I hope to get from this book club a new variety of books to learn from and discover new possible genres of interest,”  said sophomore Andrea Garcia
