ILS’s beloved mascot Jorge is a fond fixture at many Royals’ sporting events.

Though ILS is known for its mascot, the Royal Lion, it wasn’t always like this.

Back in the day, ILS used to be known as the  Royal Palms. Then in the 1970’s students asked for  a different mascot, becoming the Royal Lions.

Though ILS now had a mascot, it did not have a name.

Until sometime between 2008-2010, there was a student named Jorge Garcia who frequently volunteered to be the lion.

One day at a pep rally there was a contest to see what the lion’s name should be.

And that’s how Jorge the Lion got his name, after alumni Jorge Garcia.

During the pandemic, Jorge the Lion retreated given the social distancing restrictions and absence of any pep rallies.

Today, Jorge is back and ready to have some fun at pep rallies and all those other events which make ILS such a spirited community.

So, who is behind the mask of Jorge the Lion today?

Students are always trying to find out who is the person under the costume.

Who is the Jorge the Lion at the pep rallies?

We can’t reveal him but he still apart of all of us because we are all Royal lions

Who has to wear that super hot costume melting in the sun?

Turns out it’s not the same person. Sometimes it’s a student and sometimes it’s even a member of the faculty.

Meaning that whenever you see him though you may not know who it is, he will always be 100 percent Jorge the Lion.

Jorge is at many events here at ILS, he is part of foot ball games, pep rallies, any school event we have he is most likely there

He is also there in events with Parents, like the food and wine tasting or the Golf tournament

Jorge keeps the ILS, legacy alive, and we will always be Royal Lions

Let’s go Royals
