Before the Girls’ Volleyball team faced Carrollton recently, the opposing teams joined together in a demonstration of faith and solidarity to pray on behalf of the Our Lady of Lourdes and Carrollton students/families impacted by the tragic boating accident in the Keys over Labor Day weekend.

With a heavy heart, the girls found this match difficult less so for competitive reasons than because they had on their minds the loss of life of one OLLA senior, and the concerns for those still hospitalized after the accident.

ILS stands behind by joining with the community in love, prayer, and support.

Before their matches, each player selected yellow rose, handed it to an opposing player on the Carrollton team, held hands, and bowed their heads in prayer.

“I think in times like these is when it’s most important to show up for our community,” said varsity player Isabella Blaikie.

ILS demonstrated their sportsmanship toward an opposing team in time of sadness.

“We are sister schools playing the same sport and we’re working towards the same goal so I think it was a good representation of our unity during these hard times,” said varsity team captain Angelina Cambo.

At the end of the day, all are all united through Christ with the ability support each other with dignity.
