The FIFA World Cup, more commonly referred to as the World Cup, is one of the largest soccer events of the year. Soccer fans look forward to this event in hopes that their team can take home the win.

The World Cup is an international association soccer competition. Those who attend are members of the men’s national teams. This event determines the sport’s world champion.

Since the tournament is televised internationally, as well as having a total of 32 teams from all around the globe being represented, many people are drawn towards the event.

This year’s World Cup will take place in Qatar and will begin Sunday, November 20 ending on Sunday, December 18.

Each year, the host nation of the World Cup, in this case Qatar, is automatically qualified to play. That’s right, no matter their rank overall, they will get to participate and play in the first match.

You may be wondering, “How exactly do the games work?”

The process is as follows:

A total of four matches will be played each day during the group stage. From here winners and runners-up will progress to the round of 16. This is followed by the quarter finals, the semi finals, the third place match (contested by the losing semi finalist) and lastly, the final (worldsocccertalk.com).

The kick off times will be based off the Qatar time zone, so be sure to note when your team will be playing in eastern standard time.

The World Cup was first held in 1930 and continues to live on today. This is a major event for all soccer fans which  takes place once every four years.

The winners of the World Cup also receive a total of 42 million dollars, the World Cup trophy, and the title of men’s soccer world champion.
