Swim Team Victory: Sports Updates

Good afternoon ILS, 

HAPPY HOMECOMING WEEK! Here is your Sunday sports flash and upcoming sports schedule.

Swimming: The swimming team was in action at the Belen Invite, which is one of the more competitive invites of the season. The boys team exceled and got 2nd place against tough group of teams! They squeaked into 2nd place by .5 of a point in front of Mater Academy and 1 point ahead of Belen. Other teams they defeated were Columbus, Terra, Archbishop McCarthy, and Riviera Prep. The girls’ team was also in action at the Belen meet.

Results:

Rachel Larralde – 5th place 200 Free

Lucas young – 1st place 200 IM & 1st place 100 breast

Lucas Franchak – 3rd place 100 fly & 4th place 500 free

Mathias Alvarado- 2nd place 50 free & 1st place 100 free

Boys 200 free relay – 1st place: Lucas young, Mathias Alvarado, Lucas Franchak, Joaquín Espinal

Boys 400 free relay – 2nd place: Lucas Young, Mathias Alvarado, Lucas Franchak, Joaquin Espinal

Football: Royal Lion Football team picked up a huge district win against Miami Jackson 30-18! The offense was clicking with QB Stetson Angelo throwing for 212 yards and 3 touchdowns. Joel Salien led the WR’s with 2 touchdowns on 8 catches and 119 yards! Alan Shael caught 4 passes for 49 yards, while Tyrone Williams III caught 2 for 23 yards. On the ground, Santiago Robles was the leading rusher again with 18 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown.

On the defensive side the team gave up some early touchdowns in the first half. After halftime the team was completely flying all over the field and staying discipline while shutting out the Generals in the 2nd half. The leading tackler in the game was freshmen Philip Jones Jr. who had 6 tackles and 2 sacks in the game. Wendell Copeland had 4 tackles while Jaden John had 2 sacks in the game. Adryan Mendoza, Jordan Diaz and Royce Adenken each had a sack.

Volleyball: The Girls volleyball closed out the regular season with a solid win over Don Soffer in straight sets (25-20, 25-21,& 25-22). The team got to honor their 4 seniors Lucia Gonzalez, Miranda Dunbar, Miranda Grande and Gaby Rodriguez in the match vs the Barracudas. The seniors look to help the team go for back-to-back district titles next week!

The Junior Varsity & Freshmen teams seasons came to and end this week. The JV team got to pick up one final win vs. Don Soffer with score of 25-13 & 25-19, while the Freshmen teams season ended last week at a weekend tournament. The future is very bright for the girls Volleyball program and can’t wait to see these teams in action next year!

Monday, October 16, 2023: Varsity Volleyball hosts Quarterfinal District Match vs Booker T. Washington in the Lion’s Den at 5PM.

Boys Golf team hosts Gulliver Prep at Crandon Park.

Tuesday, October 17, 2023: Volleyball Semi-final Match vs the winner of iMater & SLAM. 5PM @ iMater Academy (If they win Monday).

Wednesday, October 18, 2023: Girls Golf Team goes up against Riviera Prep

Thursday, October 19, 2023: Swim team District Meet at Ransom (dismissal 1:00PM).

Volleyball District Championship @ iMater 5:00PM (If they win Tuesday).

Friday, October 20, 2023: Homecoming Football Game vs St. Brendan. Kick off 7:00PM in the Jungle!

Saturday, October 21, 2023: Cross Country Travels to Stuart Florida for. The South Folk High School invite.
