Girls Basketball Tops Pinecrest Glades, 47-38

ILS girls varsity basketball won their fourth game in a row last Tuesday.

On Tuesday January 7th, the ILS girls varsity basketball team started the second half of the year with an impressive win over Pinecrest Glades Academy, 47-38.

The Lady Royal Lions started slow after the extended winter break. They were down to the Dragons 11-9 after the first quarter.

But the team responded with a dominant second quarter. The Lady Royals routed Pinecrest Glades in the second quarter by the score of 12-2 to take a 21-13 halftime lead.

The second half of the game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams staying close. ILS won the 26-25 and won the game 47-38. They improved their record to 6-6.

Freshman Mary Scheuerle had a dominant effort. She posted a career-high 24 points, making 11 of 18 shot attempts. She also grabbed 13 rebounds.

Junior point guard Camila Corvalan played an excellent all-around, scoring five points, grabbing three rebounds, passing out four assists and picking up four steals.

Sophomore Cassie Martinex de Castro scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds. And junior Laura Hernandez chipped in with five points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Royals were without junior starter Ana Sol for the game.

The Lady Royal Lions have now won four games in a row and five of their last six games. On Thursday, the team travels to St. Brendan to play the Sabres.
