Mr. Tim Gamwell shows good sportsmanship as he claps when the sophomores win.

It’s that time of the year again when all the classes come together to celebrate Homecoming Week. This year’s theme was A Royal Holiday and what a better way to get in the royal holiday homecoming spirit than Skit day? You want to feel the love? You’ve got the freshmen covered in red and pink with someone dressed as Cupid to spread the Valentine’s Day feeling. Had enough of the love? Want to appreciate what you have and give thanks for it? Then, the sophomores are the way to go! With their fall colors, turkey costumes, and creative posters, they radiated the grateful energy of Thanksgiving. Tired of turkey? Want to replace it with some good old Independence Day barbecue? The juniors were ready with their speakers blasting Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus showing their patriotism in white, red, and blue outfits waving the American flag all set to celebrate the Fourth of July. Annoyed by all these holidays? Still waiting for the most anticipated holiday of the year? Ho, ho ho; the seniors run this. All decked out in the holiday spirit, there were the seniors with enough Santa outfits, blankets, reindeer slippers, elf hats, green and red to make Christmas the most wonderful royal holiday of all.

“I’m glad we won and everything but I was surprised about it because I just think we weren’t as prepared and professional like the juniors who even had the Netflix thing planned. I also think a big part of the why we won was because of all the talk about the feast and God,” revealed sophomore Catalina Martinez.

The sophomores took the first place trophy with their Thanksgiving skit. The reason for their win was family. It was about coming together instead of tearing each other down. It portrayed the sophomores and the freshman in conflict with each other resulting in them realizing they don’t have to fight.  It ended with them coming together as an ILS family and dancing a choreographed number to the song We are Family which was like the icing on the cake.

“I think our skit was really good, but if we hadn’t had audio problems, it would’ve been better. I also think all the dances in our skit were amazing and carried,” said senior Lucia Gonzalez.

Next, came the seniors in second place. Their skit was based off the “Grinch Stole Christmas,” but instead of the Grinch, it was Jorge the lion. It began with Sr.Kim reading the seniors a bedtime story as Jorge stole the presents under the tree. Then, the seniors had to do many things to get them back like making him laugh which they did by making the guys reenact the “Jingle Bell Rock” dance from the movie “Mean Girls.” Finally, they convince Jorge that the presents are for everyone to share and come together to dance to the song All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey. Although there were a few audio problems, the seniors did a wonderful job with what they had. In fact, when the music was cut off in the end, everyone came together and started singing which was a heartwarming and unified moment for all.

“I honestly thought they were going to win because of the “Titanic” scene, and if not, they at least deserved a million points for creativity,” said senior Andrea Celada.

Third place were the freshmen. Their skit followed a class’s lesson on Valentine’s Day which was crashed by Cupid showing romantic scenes from different movies or music videos. There was one scene which many thought would be the reason for a win. The scene was a recreation from the “Titanic” movie and it featured a freshman playing Rose with her arms open to her sides on what looked like a rectangular bin with wheels decorated with windows on the side to look like a boat being pushed by another freshman who was probably playing Jack.

“It was really fun and I liked participating in it, but it was really last minute so I hope in sophomore year more people participate and we’ll be more prepared.”

Coming in last with fourth place there’s the juniors. It’s assumed they lost because of the shade they threw on the other classes. Despite all that, their skit was really well done and prepared. It was based on a history class being taught a lesson about Independence Day by Mr. Cotter Lamb. Later they went on to celebrate the Fourth of July as a united class. They also had a choreographed dance to the song “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus.

“It was really good and we deserved more justice for it. However, next year we’ll definetly get the trophy we deserve,” asserted junior Susanne Mederos.

And that was skit day 2023— lots of love, thank you’s Happy Fourth, and Merry Christmas from the Royal Courier.
