The cheer team qualified for States, Nationals and Worlds, placing 6th in the State, 6th in the Nation and 4th in the World!

Hello, ILS Family.

Here is your Sunday Sports Flash and upcoming sports schedule.

Boys Soccer: The boys soccer team defeated Don Soffer on Tuesday 3-0. Miguel Sosa had 1 goal 2 assists. Nico Ortiz and Jose Plaza each had 1 goal. Eduardo Becerra had 1 assist while Max Massat had his 6th Shutout.

The team’s season did come to an end Friday night vs Divine Savior after a 0-2 loss. We want to thank all the seniors for all their hard work and dedication to the program over four years. The team has a lot of great young players returning and will still be the 3-time defending district champs next year.

Girls Basketball: The Girls Varsity basketball team won its first-round playoff game against Miami Sunset 44-30. Alexandra Gonzalez Casar with her 15th double double of the season 10 points and 10 rebounds. Rachael Restrepo added 9 points. Melissa Carrasco had 9 points and 6 rebounds while Caroline Barrabes scored 8 points and 8 rebounds. 15th win of the season matches last year’s total.

Their season also came to an end against SLAM Academy. We really appreciate all the seniors have done for the program. Back-to-back 15-win seasons and continuing to improve each year. They will be missed.

Boys Basketball: The Boys basketball team came to an end this week as well. After a long tough season, they look to get back to work quickly with only 1 senior graduating giving the team a bright future.

Tennis: On Tuesday, the boys and girls kicked off the tennis season away at Coral Shores. It was a dominant performance with both teams coming away with 8-0 wins. On the girl’s side, freshmen Sabrina Casareale and Gabriella Punzo got their first ILS wins in the number 1 and 4 spot respectively. Senior Isabella Puglisi continues her strong tennis career with a win in the number 2 spot as well as a win in the doubles 1 spot with Sabrina. Juniors Juliana Hawley and Agatha Morrsion also picked up wins in the number 3 and 5 spot, and in the doubles 2 spot. On the boy’s side, senior Joshua Hernandez and sophomore Simon Munera got wins at the number 1 and 2 spot as well as the number 1 doubles. Junior Vigo Anduix picked up a win in the number 3 spot. Newcomers to the team, Nicolo Daulong and Joseph Saade got their first ILS wins in the number 4 and 5 spot. Vigo and Nicolo also paired up in the doubles 2 spot to secure the 8-0 win. It was a great start to the season for both teams.

The next day, the boys’ and girls’ tennis team took on heavyweight Doral Academy. Even though the score line of 0-8 for both teams does not look good on paper, there was some competitive tennis from all the team which left a lot of the players feeling good about their game regardless of the score.

Cheerleading: The varsity cheerleading team is still fighting for a 3rd National title. The team advanced today for a spot in the Finals tomorrow, Monday. The JV teams’ season did come to an end with a 4th place finish. We are extremely proud of the JV team and wish the Varsity team good luck.

JV qualified for Nationals for the 2nd year in a row and finished in 4th in the Semi-Final round, which is a great achievement! They didn’t make it to the finals, but we are very proud of this young and talented group of athletes and are excited to see the continued growth through the years.

Varsity had a rollercoaster of a season. Qualifying for States, Nationals and Worlds, placing 6th in the State, 6th in the Nation and 4th in the World! This team is young and talented and are eager to get back on top. To our 3 seniors thank you for your continued love and support through the years and to our program. Crowns up!

Sailing: ILS Sailing team had a great regatta, with Varsity finishing in 1st place overall and moving up to #1 in SAISA’s ranking after completing 5 SAISA events. Senior Umi Noritake skippered Division A with junior Nathalie Caudron, they sailed consistently and had a bullet (#1 finish) on race #4. Keith Grupenhoff skippered Varsity Division B with junior Soleil Aurignac as crew. They finished second in Division B with 4 number 2 finishes out of 6 races.

Our two JV teams did well, too with JV1 finishing 1st place with Division A scoring bullets in the last 3 races and JV2 finishing in 4th overall out of 10 boats. For JV1 we had freshman David Coates skippering Division A with senior Lucia Martinez Moure as crew and for Division B we had freshmen Leonardo Tarzani and Marina Wardlaw alternating as skipper and crew. Skippering for JV2 Division A we had sophomore Isabella Henrich skippering with freshman Alejandro Escudero as crew and for Divion B freshmen Beck Brill kippering with Kristian Gutierrez crewing
