Ukraine said Russia launched almost nonstop attacks on Kyiv during the past two days. Ukrainian officials said Russia fired more than 1,500 drones and dozens of missiles at the city. The attacks caused fear across Kyiv as people rushed into shelters and heard explosions during the night.
Ukraine said its air defense systems stopped many of the drones and missiles before they hit the city. However, some still caused damage to buildings and started fires in different areas. Emergency workers were sent out to help people and clean up damaged places.
The war between Russia and Ukraine started in 2022 and is still continuing today. Even though people have been hearing about the war for years now, attacks this large still shock many people around the world. Videos online showed smoke, damaged buildings, and people hiding underground while sirens went off across the city.
Many students said hearing about the attacks made them realize how serious war can be.
“It’s hard to imagine having to hear explosions all the time. That would be really scary,” said junior Maximo Biasutto.
Junior Martin Hoyos said social media makes the war feel more real.
“When I see videos of the attacks online, it reminds me that real people are going through this every day,” he said.
Others said the conflict shows how connected the world is today.
“Even though the war is far away, everyone still hears about it from the news and social media,” she said.
The attacks on Kyiv are another reminder that the war is still affecting millions of people. Families in Ukraine continue dealing with danger, damaged homes, and power outages because of the fighting.
Even students far away from the conflict are paying attention to the news. Stories like this help show how wars can affect people’s daily lives and why world events are important to understand.
