Hello, Royals!
Here’s your Sunday sports report and sports schedule.
Baseball: Season concludes in district championship game.
Semifinal Thriller vs. JC Bermudez: In one of the most exciting games of the season, our team battled back and forth in a semifinal matchup against JC Bermudez. We found ourselves in an early hole, trailing 2–0, but responded with resilience to take a 3–2 lead. The momentum swung again as we fell behind 5–3, setting up a tense finish.
When it mattered most, the team delivered. A huge 7th inning explosion sealed a 10–5 victory, completing an incredible comeback and punching our ticket to the district championship. It was a game defined by toughness, energy, and the refusal to back down.
Although the season ultimately ended with a loss in the district championship for the second straight year, the accomplishment of reaching back-to-back championship games in such a competitive division speaks volumes. This group showed consistency, grit, and the ability to compete at a high level all season long.
Tennis: As the tennis season comes to an end, we reflect with gratitude on an incredible journey. The team fought hard in the district tournament but ultimately came up short of their goals. We will truly miss our head coach, whose hard work, leadership, and dedication meant so much to both the team and the school. Thank you for everything you’ve given your impact will not be forgotten.
Beach VB: Beach VB has officially closed out its regular season and now turns its focus to the district tournament, where the team will enter as the No. 7 seed. In the opening round, Beach is set to face True North Classical Academy, presenting a challenging matchup against a higher-seeded opponent.
Despite the lower seeding, Beach approaches the contest with an opportunity to shift momentum in a single-elimination setting where regular-season records carry less weight. Beach VB enters with a clear objective: execute fundamentals, maintain composure, and take advantage of every opportunity to extend its season.
Boys VB: The Boys Volleyball team has earned the #1 seed heading into the district tournament and will begin postseason play on Tuesday with a matchup against SLAM on the road. A win would send them to the district championship game on Thursday, also at SLAM, where they will face the winner of MAST Academy and International Studies Charter. First serve for Thursday’s championship is set for 5:00 PM.
With momentum on their side, the team is also in position to secure the #2 or #3 seed in the regional bracket, depending on how other results play out. If things fall their way, it could set up a strong path for another deep postseason run as they look to return to the state stage for the second consecutive year.
Softball: ILS opened the playoff season with a nail-biting, gray-hair-inducing walk-off, inside-the-park home run by junior Maria Lutsenko. ILS had not held the lead until that incredible moment. Outstanding pitching by sophomore Emma Arce kept the team in the game throughout. Notable and timely hitting came from senior Emma Space and sophomores Khloe Concepcion, Emma Arce, and Sophia Saud. Lastly, Isabella (Bella) Steiner showed tremendous toughness in her role behind the plate as catcher.
They say good teams find ways to win and this team proved it. Royals will look to close out the regular season next week, with Senior Night set for Tuesday against Mater Academy. The team also finished as runner-up after falling to Marathon in the conference championship game.
Track: The track team delivered a great performance at the District Championship meet championship composure across the board.
Leading the way in the field events, Sienna Rios, and Martin Plaza each claimed District titles in the high jump, setting the tone early for the team. Krystal Inhoof had a standout day, securing a double crown in both the long jump and triple jump, showing that she was one of the most versatile athletes at the meet. In the throws, Wendell Copeland soared to victory in the javelin, adding valuable points to the team total.
On the track, the dominance continued. Daniel Marin sprinted to 1st place in the 100m, continuing his impressive season with another statement win. The girls 4×100 relay team of Sienna Rios, Frida Acevedo, Abrielle Meyer, and Krystal Inhoof executed clean handoffs and explosive legs to take the district title. The boys matched that energy, as Tavarus Jones, Trayton Jones, Pablo Aldecoa, and Daniel Marin powered their way to a 4×100 championship as well.
In the hurdles, Pablo Aldecoa put together a strong race to capture the 400m hurdles title. Andrew Brito added to the 1st place count with a win in the 800m. Capping off the meet, the boys 4×400 relay team of Pablo Aldecoa, Daniel Brito, Andrew Brito, and Martin Plaza closed the show in dominant fashion, securing another District title and sealing an unforgettable team performance.
Highlighting the night, the Immaculata-La Salle boys team made history by four-peating as District Champions, continuing their reign and cementing their legacy of excellence. With momentum fully on their side, the team now turns its focus to the Regional Championship on May 1st, where they’ll look to carry this energy forward and continue their postseason run.
Sailing: Waiting on results.
