The Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami took place this past Sunday, March 3, and it didn’t disappoint.
Before the race, there was concern about the weather in Miami because of rain, so cars had to plan their strategies. Teams prepared for possible rain and changing conditions. In qualifying, Kimi Antonelli took pole, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri close behind.
At the start, Antonelli kept the lead into turn one. Norris followed, staying close through the opening laps. The race was steady early on, with drivers focusing on tire management and keeping position.
The safety car came out near the beginning of the race, with Isack Hadjar crashing, bunching the field together. This gave teams a chance to make pit stops without losing as much time. Some drivers gained positions from this, while others lost out depending on their timing. Piastri benefited and moved into third during this phase.
After the restart, Antonelli handled it well and stayed in front. Norris tried to stay close, but Antonelli kept a small gap and stayed in control. There were no major mistakes in the final laps.
Antonelli finished first, Norris second, and Piastri third.
Sophomores Santiago Garcia Palau, who also attended the race said, “I was very happy in the race because it was my first time going and also because a Mercedes driver won, and I’ve been a Mercedes fan for many years now.”
For the championship, this win helps Antonelli extend his lead. The safety car gave others a chance, but he still came out on top. Norris continues to score strong points, while Piastri stays close behind in the standings.
Sophomore Luca Drago, who attended the race, said, “It was a great experience going to the race and it was interesting to see the battle between Kimi Antonelli and Lando Norris.”
The following week the Grand Prix is in Montreal, Canada, so it will be interesting to see who comes up on top.
