VIP 305 is a nonprofit that aims to help those with special needs. Through their service projects, they help make individuals feel comforted, loved, and appreciated. The impact made on their clients is noticeable.
VIP last month had two events to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Volunteers and those with special needs came together and had a fun, Valentine’s Day–themed experience. While VIP 305 serves the community year-round, Valentine’s Day offered a special opportunity to highlight its impact.
“I love painting so much,” said Taylor Garcia.
On Valentine’s Day, VIP hosted an activity day with many different activities. There was painting, a coin toss, and even karaoke. At this event, I could see how much fun these adults were having. We cheered them on while they played coin toss, danced to Just Dance, and painted with them. Throughout this experience, I saw how something as simple as playing games can bring people so much joy.
“I had so much fun!” said Ana Roger.
The next week, they had a Valentine’s Day dance at Dancing in XS. This event was very special. When I arrived, there was already so much going on. There were barbers cutting people’s hair for those who couldn’t do it themselves, along with hair and makeup. There was music, and the whole place was filled with love and compassion. We cheered them on, and it was a great time to give people, who have so much love and energy, appreciation and support.
“I really enjoyed working with them—they had so much fun,” said Stephanie T, a high school student.
Through service projects at VIP 305, especially these two events, I have learned so much—not only about myself, but about the people we serve. Those born with disabilities such as with Down Syndrome are a special group of people to work with because, despite the challenges they may face, they bring so much positivity and energy. They teach us that even with challenges, it is important to do everything with love.
